‘Bush prepares global warming initiative’ (No, this is not The Onion)

By GreenCent

This article from the Washington Times falls into the “I’ll believe it when I see it” file:

President Bush is poised to change course and announce as early as this week that he wants Congress to pass a bill to combat global warming, and will lay out principles for what that should include.

Specifics of the policy are still being fiercely debated, but Bush administration officials have told Republicans in Congress that they feel pressure to act now because they fear a coming regulatory nightmare. It would be the first time Mr. Bush has called for statutory authority on the subject.

I didn’t post on this earlier this morning because it’s simply not believable that Bush would use his final months in office to push for action on climate change.

And Climate Progress reminds us why we should be weary:

[O]nce again we are told by the mainstream media (assuming the Washington Times counts as mainstream), “Bush prepares global warming initiative.” Hmm.

Where have we heard this before? September 2006, “President Bush is preparing an astonishing U-turn on global warming,” which flamed out fast [duh!]…

His much-hyped State of the Union climate reversal was yet another blue Lucy-removes-the-football moment.
